I believe many people are confused about the comparison of shielded inductor and unshielded inductor. According to the difference of magnetic shielding performance, there are two different names of shielded inductor and unshielded inductor. Shielded inductor includes chip inductor and I-shaped inductor, and the same is true for unshielded inductor.

1. Distinguish between shielded inductor and unshielded inductor in appearance

The shielding inductor has a magnetic shielding structure outside, so the coil winding must be unshielded inductor from the appearance, and the coil winding cannot be seen from the appearance of the shielding inductor.

But there is one exception to note: the invisible coil is not necessarily the shielded inductor, but it may also be the I-shaped inductor with a thermally flexible sleeve.

7. The unshielded inductor has the characteristics of high saturation magnetic rate, small size and low impedance. Mainly focused on plug-in inductors, part of the chip inductors GCD series (which will soon be replaced by shielded inductors), and rod inductors.
