In fact, soldering is a very important step in the production of inductors, but which is not paid much attention to. It is very necessary for us to adapt reasonable methods to weld the SMD wound inductors to ensure that our inductor performance is more powerful. 1. Oxidation or foreign matter on the inductor soldering pad

Poor soldering of SMD wound inductors, oxidation or foreign matter on the inductor pad are common reason that cause poor soldering of various inductors

2. There is burr on the soldering pad of SMD inductor

There is a leg cutting process in the production of SMD inductor. In this process, if the cutter is not well maintained, it is easy to cause burr on the inductor soldering pad. In this case, it will also cause uneven attachment of the inductor, resulting in poor welding.

3. The bending foot of the SMD inductor soldering pad is uneven

Under normal circumstances, the pads at both ends of the inductor should be completely attached to the solder paste of the PCB board. However, if the inductor pads are not bent properly during the foot bending operation, it will cause the end of the inductor to be warped, resulting in poor welding.

4. The inductor body groove is too deep

There are two grooves on SMD inductor body. These two grooves are the position after the inductor pad pin is bent. However, if the inductor groove is too deep, which is greater than the thickness of the pad sheet, although the inductor is flat attached to the PCB board, the inductance pad is suspended and does not contact with the solder paste, resulting in poor welding.

5. Problems in customer manufacturing process

Poor soldering of the SMD inductor is not only the problem of the inductor itself. In many cases, due to the problems of the customer’s manufacturing process, it will also lead to poor soldering of the inductor, such as low solder paste return temperature and insufficient reflow soldering temperature.

More attention should be paid to the above problems in the welding process of SMD winding inductor to minimize the undesirable phenomena in the welding process.
